Acrylic on gallery-style wood panel. Painted sides, no need to frame!
This is an 8×10 painting with a cooling, calming effect as one considers the teachings of the Buddha and the nature of reality. The painting has lots of touchable texture and the Buddha image is carved into the piece. On either side of the Buddha figure is an unalome symbol – a visual image of reaching enlightenment. The spiraling twists and turns represents our struggle with life, while the straight line pointing upwards, represents the straight path to Enlightenment. Unalome are the “crowns” of the arahants, the enlightened noble ones.
This is a painting of The Buddha himself – the first of the Three Jewels of refuge (Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha). Having faith in this human being who reached enlightenment energizes us, so that we too can know that liberation from suffering is possible.
This painting brings a sense of unity and is a beautiful focal point when contemplating and calming the mind.
